ELKS Lodge #61 51st Anniversary Fishing Derby!

What:

The Springfield Department of Parks, Buildings and Recreation Management and The Springfield Lodge of Elks #61 will hold the 51st Anniversary Elks Fishing Derby.

Where:

Barney Pond in Forest Park

When:

April 26th, 2014 from 7:30 am to 12:00 noon.

Who:

All boys and girls up to and including age 12 are invited

Prizes:

One trophy per child will be awarded for tagged trout caught.  There is a three trout limit.  A grand prize of a $50.00 Shopping Spree will be awarded to the child who catches the longest tagged trout.  A free raffle will be held throughout the derby.

Participants will have to pay to enter the park.  $3.00 in state and $5.00 out of state.

Summer Enrichment Programs

Registration begins on Monday, May 12th with each site having a specific day.  See the schedule in the chart below.

Registration will take place in the Park Department's Recreation Office (at 200 Trafton Road) from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (or until sites are filled)

NOTE:  There is a $3.00 fee to enter the park for registration

Cost:  $50/Child for the first child and $25 for each addition sibling (CASH ONLY!)

Ages:  7 - 12 (must be 7 by July 1 and not turn 13 before July 1)

*****BIRTH CERTIFICATES ARE REQUIRED TO REGISTER*****

*****ONLY PARENTS OR LEGAL GUARDIANS MAY REGISTER A CHILD*****

EACH PROGRAM ACCEPTS 70 CHILDREN.  REGISTRATION IS ON FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED BASIS.

Parents of children attending the Forest Park ECOS program will have to pay each time they enter the park throughout the summer.  If your child(ren) are attending this program you may want to purchase a season pass.

Programs run Monday - Friday from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm.

Programs begin on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 and run through August 1, 2014

"On The Wilder Side"

If you are looking for a fun-filled out-of-the-ordinary experience, this adventure program is just right for you and promises to be EXTRA-ordinary!  There will be five, one-week sessions that include team building games and challenges, kayaking, fishing, swimming, treasure hunts, hiking, snorkeling, survival skills and out-of-the-box adventure!  This year’s lineup has a ropes challenge course to add even more excitement and challenges to your wilder experience! From beginner to expert level, you will learn new skills while exploring fun ways of helping each other AND our environment.  Come uncover the REAL you in this unique program of self esteem and competence building.

So c’mon…take a week on the wilder side…or take two!

Afterschool programs

Looking for a free afterschool program that provides a safe, fun-filled environment for your children with lots of opportunities for hands-on educational and recreational activities to support what they do during the school day? The Recreation Division of the Department of Parks, Buildings and Recreation Management (DPBRM) runs six afterschool programs at three elementary and three middle schools located throughout the city and funded by the Springfield Public Schools.

Public skating

Public skating is offered at Cyr Arena in Forest Park on Friday and Saturday evenings from 7:00 p.m. – 8:50 p.m. and Sundays from 2:00 p.m. – 3:50 p.m. beginning on Friday, October 4.  There is a $5.00 admission fee ($3.00 for youth) and a $4.00 skate rental fee.  Birthday parties may be scheduled please call 787-6438 after 4:00 p.m. for booking and fee information.
