Environment: Springfield was named in 2007 the 4th "Greenest City" in the United States by Country Home Magazine. One such reason is the amazing parks in the city, including Court Square Park. The largest and centerpiece of the city park system is the Olmsted designed Forest Park, which is surrounded by the Forest Park neighborhood which features a wide stock of stately historic homes.

Public Safety: A November 2007 survey compiled by the Massachusetts Major Cities Chiefs noted that Springfield experienced a sharp decrease in violent crime from 2006 to 2007, compared to other Commonwealth cities.
