About Union Station

This $77.8 million project will integrate multiple transit modes in one convenient, functional and attractive transportation complex.

Phase I:

A $68.3 million Phase I program of independent transit utility will reconstruct Union Station as a primary transportation hub for the region and will include:

    • Restoration of Terminal Building and its central concourse.
    • Removal of the Baggage Building and construction of 26-bay bus terminal and a 255-space parking garage.
    • Restoration and reactivation of the passenger tunnel linking the terminal building to Lyman Street and the rail boarding platform.

      Phase II (Full Redevelopment):

      A $9.5 million Phase II program will enable the completion of a comprehensive mixed-used complex that includes a regionally significant transportation facility as well as third-party tenants and will:

      • Open up 64,000 square feet of leasable commercial space on the Terminal Building's upper floors.
      • Include two additional levels of parking (122 spaces).

      About Us

      The Springfield Redevelopment Authority is a corporate and political body established by the City of Springfield on June 24, 1960. Over the past fifty years, the Springfield Redevelopment Authority has been a key component in keeping the City of Springfield a vital place. Through broad development powers afforded by Section 46 of Chapter 121B, the Springfield Redevelopment Authority buys and sells property, acquires property through eminent domain, and constructs, finances and maintains properties throughout the City. The five member board is comprised of four Mayoral appointments plus the director of the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development. Since its creation 50 years ago, the Springfield Redevelopment Authority has been involved in more than 35 Urban Renewal Plans throughout the City.
